3 Reasons Why Flush Casement is the Future

27/5/2018

The flush casement window has been one of the bigger innovations within the UK window market over the past few years. Specifically within the PVCu sector. It has been an option which has allowed home owners to choose a window with more of a timber aesthetic, even if it is an aluminium or PVCu product. And with the recent launch of the Twin Flush from Origin, the future looks good for flush. Here are three reasons why.

Reduced frame impact

As home owners become way more educated about the options and choice that is out there on the market place, demand for products which don’t look like the old bunch will naturally increase. Products like the flush casement window certainly tick that box.

It’s clean lines, it’s flat finish, coupled with general dimensions that allow it to be easily retro-fitted to most properties, make it a popular choice amongst the new crop of products.
Timber alternative traditional casement windows, like the white Evolution product pictured above, are great too. Compared with “standard” PVCu, it has a much lesser visual impact. But for home owners looking for the most minimal product visually, whilst at the same time maintaining a timber look, the flush sash is where it is.

Popularity of timber

One of the big reasons why flush casement windows have taken off is the past few years is down to timber.

Way back when, when timber was top of the pile and PVCu hadn’t even been considered as a window and door material, timber windows would often be flush. No large overlapping casements. Then PVCu came along. Yes it was more convenient due to the lack of maintenance in comparison with timber. But the early PVCu certainly did not come with the same looks and charm as timber.

Thankfully things have got a lot better since the early seventies, and the better PVCu companies have taken a leaf out of the timber book and worked hard to provide a PVCu option which can pose a genuine challenge on the looks front to timber. Throw in some old fashioned hardware and you’ve got a damn good window, with all the looks of timber, with all the benefits PVCu brings to the table.

Flush all round

We are currently working through the first generation of flush casement windows, and there are now plenty of them. Almost all PVCu fabricators and syscos have one. The aluminium industry has plenty. And of course the timber sector has been doing it since time began.

The Twin Flush casement window recently announced by Origin is though the next generation of flush window. As their promotional content says, it is an industry first. But it won’t be the last.

As the industry and home owners get used to seeing clean, flush fitting casements on the outside, it is easy to see how demand for an all round flush window will rise in the coming years. As triple glazing is to double glazing, flush casements inside and out seems the next logical step in the general evolution of the product.

When it comes to cost, there is very little difference between flush casements and traditional casement windows. So giving home owners a choice between the two should not be a barrier.

The future looks good for flush casement windows. If you’re not on board already, it’s time you were.
